The Food Pantry is Moving

September 29, 2017

The Rankin Christian Center has graciously allowed the food pantry to use space in the basement of one of their buildings in Pitcairn for many years. Unfortunately, it is rather far from most of our clients and is located at the top of a steep hill, making it difficult for many to get to the pantry and get their groceries home. The owners are also actively looking to sell the building.

Our new building is located on Broadway, the flat main street in Pitcairn called Broadway and is much closer to the homes of the majority of our clients. We also expect to expand our services in the new building to include evening hours each month to accommodate those who may work during the day.

The new location will also be home to a 6 x 8 foot walk in cooler and a 6 x 8 foot walk in freezer thanks to several generous donors and grants that were awarded for that purpose. Larger refrigeration and freezer capacity will enable us to more wisely use our government funding as we can more easily order in bulk. These units also run much more efficiently than our old equipment.

There will be much to do in making the transition. Shelving must be assembled, inventory moved, and office and registration areas must be set up. This ambitious move must be done between Oct. 20 and Nov. 1st. We are in need of a box truck to move the inventory and equipment and LOTS of volunteers. If you or someone you know can help in any way, please let us know.
