PitCare has distributed over 350 bikes over the past several years to children and teens in Pitcairn. Additionally, we have distributed bikes to adults both in Pitcairn and through the Light of Life Mission to be used for transportation to and from work.
Through the leadership of Gary Agate, bike repair and distribution is an ongoing, year-round activity. We have sponsored bike give-aways, as well as bike repair days, in which volunteers come into Pitcairn to teach and repair bicycles.
In the spring of 2018 we partnered with the Presbyterian Church of Pitcairn to host an annual "Blessing of the Bikes" and Strawberry Festival. We have received donations of bicycles from individuals, Monroeville Rotary Club, Grace Presbyterian Church, and Penn Hills Police Department, just to name a few.
We are always accepting bikes in solid condition that might need a tune up. Additionally, donations help to purchase parts and tools used to ensure every bike is safe to ride.
As part of the drive to provide more healthy food options in our community we started the community garden in 2019. Our goal has evolved over the years to provide not only food but a way for people to learn more skills, be a part of a community and be active.
Located on 3rd Street, our garden is maintained by our student summer interns and volunteers. We start to prep our garden in early May and work through the year, winterizing as late as possible to maximize our growing season. The community is encouraged to help themselves to the produce with most of it going to the Pitcairn Food pantry.
If you have a green thumb and would love to help support the garden, either in person or financially please reach out to us at [email protected]. We are looking for a lead volunteer that is willing to regularly tend the garden and help provide fresh produce for the pantry!

GivingTuesday began in 2012 as a simple idea: a day to inspire generosity and caring across communities. It has since grown into a global movement uniting hundreds of millions of people around the world to give time, support, and kindness to neighbors in need.
At PitCare, we believe there is no better way to honor the Giving Tuesday spirit than by taking care of those among us who are most vulnerable. Every weekday our volunteers deliver more than just meals. We bring warmth, safety checks, and human connection to homebound seniors and people with disabilities in our community.
But with rising costs and funding gaps, we’re in danger of having to reduce or even pause these vital visits. This Giving Tuesday, you can help make sure that doesn’t happen.
Your gift will:
Keep hot, nutritious meals on the table
Maintain daily wellness checks
Ensure no senior spends another winter day hungry or alone
No amount is too small. Every act of generosity adds up — and when you give to PitCare this Giving Tuesday, you’re joining a worldwide wave of kindness that lifts up entire communities.
